Close to the wine region of the “Wachau”, the imperial castle of Artstetten is set in a dreamland park and includes the Archduke Franz Ferdinand museum and family crypt. Artstetten Castle is still inhabited by the family.
Museum and Family Crypt - Artstetten Castle offers a fairytale background to follow the destiny of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Here we preserve the memory of the heir of the throne, Archeduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife the Duchess Sophie von Hohenberg, who fell as first victims of the First World War, to a murderous attack in Sarajevo on 28 June 1914.
The Exhibition - The exhibition "Through the Keyhole: History Tells!" lets experience the visitors the fine line between life and death, enters the multi-faceted world of the political thinker, reformer, collector, but above all the family man Archduke Franz Ferdinand. A touching family story comes alive!
Castle`s Nature-Park - The castle`s nature-park, invites the visitor to wander along the footsteps of Emperor Franz, Archduke Carl Ludwig and Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Discover the beauty and secrets of this original, 6-hectare, ecologically preserved, natural monument! Furthermore, a total of over 1000 peony plants around the castle and in the nature-park bloom between May and June in all their glory.
Castle Cafè - Experience the Austrian Café tradition in a historical atmosphere with a beautiful view to the Nature-Castle Park of Artstetten! Typical snacks await you in the cozy Castle Café.
