Description

The Orangery at Schönbrunn was built around 1754 by Nicolaus Pacassi. With a length of 189 metres and a breadth of ten metres, it is one of the largest orangeries in Europe after that of Versailles.

Originally built as a Baroque hot house, it was soon used by the Habsburgs for magnificent festive celebrations, at which Franz Joseph impressed his guests with decorated citrus trees and exotic plants.

Take a look at the imposing structure and note the historical hypocaust heating system, still in use today.
