Culture and history, enjoyment, gentle exercise and views - the best price-performance ratio for a day at Schönbrunn.
Sited on the east façade of the palace, this garden was named the Crown Prince Garden in 1870 when a suite was furnished for Crown Prince Rudolf on the ground floor on this side of the palace. This was the privy garden of the imperial family until the end of the monarchy in 1918.
Adjoining the Privy Garden is one of the oldest parts of the park at Schönbrunn, called ‘On the Cellar’, which was laid out around 1700. The intricate patterns of the formal beds can best be appreciated from the modern viewing pavilion.
